Meet the Owners


paula & don house

Paula & Don House are a pair that are as delightful as they are down-to-earth. Anyone who knows them well will tell you that they are both good at a little bit of everything! You may know them as the owners of The Amish Barn at Edge.After purchasing the home and land from a set of close friends, Paula & Don became the proud owners of the place they would come to call Shady Estate. Like their friends before them, they look forward to watching countless beautiful moments unfold within this rare and lovely place.

Our Roots


Built in 1963 by Mae Dean and F.W. Bert Wheeler, this property was created when College Station looked very different. From the very beginning, it seemed that the Wheeler family designed the home with gathering in mind!While College Station grew around it, memories grew within it. Under their care, this home's grand foyer, the buffet room, the spacious kitchen, large living rooms, and the 12 acres surrounding it were ever lively. Over the years, everything from family holidays to birthday parties to affluent business affairs and banquets took place here.Over the years, the home changed hands a number of times before eventually coming under the care of a set of dear friends of Paula & Don House. With these friends, the legacy of hosting continued!

In early 2025, this set of friends sold the home to Paula & Don House, who knew its history well. From the moment the pair stepped through the great wooden doors of the property, the home's next chapter began.Not long after, the 12 acres of land and the large house within it were given a name: Shady Estate. With this name, the couple would let the home continue doing what it does best: being a place where people gather, and memories are made!Shady Estate's story does not end here, though. Fortunately, it is still being written.

The Process


For all of our bookings, we strive to give you as much control over your event as possible! This means that for things like ceremony sites (for weddings), decor, and activity locations, we try to be flexible and work with you.If at any point during the planning of your party you have any questions, you can easily reach a member of our team!

Inclusions


All bookings include the following complementary services.

  • Day-of-event staffing

  • Directed event parking

  • Waste management

  • Access to venue for bridal photos (if applicable)

  • Engraved, family establishment plaque (weddings only)

Optional Add-ons


  • 30" x 96" Wooden Rectangular Tables (32 available): $8.50 per table

  • 72" Wooden Round Tables (18 available): $12.50 per table

  • Wooden Garden Chairs (500 available): $2.50 per chair

  • Engraved, pastor's box (walnut, cherry, oak): ~$250.00

By default, all of our bookings carry a duration of 2 days total.

This price does not include things such as catering, DJ bookings, or table/chair rentals.

Payment schedule


  • 25% of the total rental fee with a signed contract is required to reserve the event date. (Non-refundable).

  • An additional 25% of the total rental fee is due 6 months prior to the event date.

  • The remaining 50% of the total rental amount plus any additional items and security deposit(s) is due 3 weeks prior to the event date.

What events do you accept?

We are honored to accept all sorts of events, including, but not limitied to: birthday parties, baby showers, graduation parties, celebrations of life, weddings, company events, and much more!

Where are you located?

We are located at 1000 Shady Drive in College Station, Texas, just off of University Drive.

Do you have a minimum guest requirement?

No. We do not have a minimum guest requirement for any of our bookings! We welcome all gatherings, no matter how small and intimate they may be.

How many guests can you accommodate?

Indoors, Shady Estate can accommodate 75 guests with room for food service to take place. Outdoors, however, our capacity extends up to 350 guests!

Do you require specific vendors to be used?

No. We do not require our guests to utilize any specific vendors!

For weddings, do you require a planner/coordinator?

No. We do not require you to use a wedding planner or coordinator. If you are interested, though, we do have a few that we can recommend upon request!

Does your pricing fluctuate based on days/seasons?

No! Our prices stay the same regardless of what day of the week or season of the year your event will fall on.

Do you offer lodging?

Yes! We offer use of the 2 bedroom, 3 bathroom home for a few of our guests to stay in. We are very fortunate to be near a number of hotels as well!

What are your policies for alcohol?

For events that will feature alcohol, we require that at least two security personnel be present at all times for the duration of the event. We also require alcohol to be dispensed by a TABC-certified bartender.For the safety of our guests and staff, we do not, at any time, allow BYOB (bring your own beer/wine/cooler/liquor) policies.
